the power of publicity ...

The bi-monthly e-news is working well. We have more to say, you have less junk on your laptop. That's not to say what we write is rubbish of course! In-fact Louisa Power wrote a 'green buying guide' for the Design Indaba magazine last month read more

So obsessive are we about only using the adila betty and jute sainsbury bags for grocery shopping (even packing them to use in South Africa whilst on a recent buying trip) we're looking into having our own adila (just & fair) jute bottle bag. Not that we don't like sainsbury's, but to be honest we would rather promote adila, and we hear the supermarkets are doing okay without our help.

Talking of help ... publicity. We love it. It's free. It works. We get excited (even a year on) seeing the adila name and products in the press, see the updated press page. Look out for the December issue of Cosmopolitan, our very own 'Frida Kahlo' jewellery will be featured in their Christmas Guide.

Lastly, we don't want to talk about Christmas just yet, however we will be holding a Christmas Open Day 2nd Dec in the Cambridge area. The internet will always be our home, however sometimes it's nice to pick up a bag, try on the earrings and just stand back and admire the art of Altaf Kramer. You can do all this whilst wandering around with a glass of fair trade South African wine with a bit of Christmas music in the background. For details and an invitation email us at info@adila.co.uk stating number of guests.

See you there!

the new 'shelley' bag ...

The big bag to outshine all big bags. It's 'eco' (produced using waste cotton from t/shirt manufacturing). It's 'fair trade' (handmade by women in South AFrica). It's bold and bright and fun and durable. But most importantly it's a one off, each crafter producing one bag, each bag unique.

Love it, flaunt it, be proud of it. It's an original adila (just & fair) bag and it's BIG!

exciting potter joins adila ...

Gerhard van den Heever works from his studio in Paternoster, on the West Coast of South Africa. A talented and passionate artist who takes pride not only in his craft, but how his work is produced. A full profile page will be added to the website shortly, however here's a brief overview of how the 'eco egg' pot came to be ...

The clay - purchased from local companies who employ locals. Clay that is discarded during production is dried in the sun and manually wedged till it's ready to use again.

The water - residue from the process is used on the trees, flowers and vegetables surrounding the potter shop and studio.

The flowers - are sent to the local tea garden for decoration. The vegetables go to the locals on a help yourself basis.

The building - was a ruin. Gerhard used local building materials and local labour to rebuild the traditional fisherman's cottage where the studio and potter shop are housed.
