bag for life ...

No, you didn't miss the January e-news, we just decided not much was happening. We all returned to work at various times and the start of January mainly consisted of planning for the coming year and lots of coffee breaks. The dark, short days (see blog for survival tip) kept our heads bent low, with a few conversations surrounding new year resolutions. The best was John's (adila's web wizard) "... follow the 'now habit' get things done with a positive attitude, and live a happier life" and it really works!

We were positive (but realistic) when we spoke to the SA DTI about sponsoring adila to attend the prestigious Design Indaba in South Africa, but true to John's new year res, adila was chosen! read more

With February approaching it's time to launch into action and the year ahead. During the coming month you will notice changes within the web site ... extensions to information pages, sleeker faster navigation and new features, whilst of course keeping the overall look fresh, clean and stimulating. Your feedback is always welcome! info@adila.co.uk

we LOVE the SA DTI...!

adila's less than a year old, our collection small (but exclusive) we're independent and there's no budget for all the spangley stuff that helps launch a company. We do have a good relationship with the 'favour bank' however, and confess our debt here is huge!

We told all this to the South African DTI, submitted figures, forms, and threw in our normal overkill amount of enthusiasm. Then forgot about it, well sort of? and got on with daily life at adila. There's a lot of great design, fair trade, eco-friendly companies out there, but they chose to back us! and for this we LOVE them!

Attending the Design Indaba in Cape Town will give us the opportunity to meet with new, exciting designers and seek out the community-based production operations we always favour. We will also be visiting our current producers to develop new products and designs exclusive to the adila collection.

bag for life ...

It's not our role at adila to preach about anything, we're not politicians or campaigners. We're designers, photographers, buyers, artists ... but what we do say is this, it makes sense to think before you buy, when you do buy, think how you will carry your purchase home? Here's a few facts to get you thinking ...

* More than 10 billion carrier bags are produced in the UK each year

* If laid end-to-end, they would reach to the moon and back five times.

* 80% of shoppers put everything into free carrier bags at the supermarket.

* 100,000 tonnes of plastic bags are thrown away each year – that’s the same weight as 70,000 cars!

The Betty (shown left) is the adila bag for life, but any reusable bag will do, it's just that ours is also fair trade, recycled, strong and very very stylish.
